DCI Kenya: Rigaku Handheld Raman Analyzer Supports Kenyan Anti-Narcotics Operation

Oct 4, 2025

Detectives from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently used a Rigaku handheld Raman analyzer during an operation at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) that successfully intercepted a drug trafficking attempt.

According to the DCI’s official report, a 41-year-old woman was arrested after being flagged by the Anti-Narcotics Unit for additional screening prior to boarding a flight to Dubai. Scans revealed concealed cocaine pellets, which were later confirmed through further investigation and field analysis.

Rigaku’s handheld Raman technology provides law enforcement with rapid, non-destructive chemical identification, allowing officers to safely and accurately confirm suspected narcotics in the field.

We are proud that Rigaku technology continues to assist global law enforcement agencies in their mission to combat drug trafficking and enhance public safety.
