Thermal Analysis Fun Facts
2nd : How can the TG derivative curve be used ? (1)
Probably the most common use is for analyzing onset temperatures. However, TG derivative curves have other useful applications as well.
One particularly helpful use is when comparing TG with DTA. In TG-DTA, The relationship between TG mass changes and DTA peaks is examined by comparing TG-DTA results. In this situation, comparing the TG derivative curve with the DTA curve, rather than the TG curve itself, often makes the interpretation clearer.
For example, since a TG mass loss appears as a downward peak on the derivative curve, which allows for a more direct comparison with peak shape in the DTA curve. This makes it easier to determine whether a given DTA peak is accompanied by a mass change or not.
