I didn't think this way when most of us at the Rigaku Americas headquarters lost power for days after Hurricane Beryl hit Texas a couple of weeks ago. I hope all fellow Texans were okay.

New application note: Wild Bird Forensic

Ted recently ran CT scans of a deceased wild bird to look for potential signs of sustained injury.

For wildlife forensic science, the samples are often kept frozen to preserve their integrity. This means you have to complete examinations such as CT scans in a relatively short amount of time so that the samples don't become completely defrosted.

Have you thought of writing a review article?

I've been searching for good review papers about how CT is applied to various industries. I recently posted some of them on LinkedIn. I put a list in the "Tips" section below.

I like reading review papers. They help you get an overview of the research that has been done in a specific area without reading hundreds of papers. They also help you see the potential gaps in the existing research, which are opportunities for new study.

While I was searching for review papers and related topics, I noticed that there was a lot of web content, including how-to videos, about how to read or write review articles. Here are a couple of good ones:

• Writing a good review article (Elsevier Author Services)
• Review articles: purpose, process, and structure (Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science)

However, only a few talk about why you should write one or why they are important.

Other than learning a lot about the existing research, writing review articles can help you establish your expertise in the field, increase your citation count because well-written reviews are often highly cited, and build a network by contacting many authors of the papers you will include in the review.
